But each pumpkin contains a differing amount, and there are more smaller amounts than large ones.  Once a pumpkin is claimed, it's gone - so hunt fast! How much gold can you collect in 1 hour? Join us and find out! If you're lucky, you may even find a pumpkin with a prize inside! (There are only a handful of these hidden throughout the sim though, so you must keep your eyes peeled! And while the won't disappear like the gold pumpkins, the number of prizes inside are limited.)

1pm - Cursus Publicus Relay Race
The cursus publicus ("public road/course") was the state-run courier service of the Roman Empire. It was created by Emperor Augustus to transport messages, officials, and tax revenues from one province to another. A series of forts and stations (mutationes, sing. mutatio) were spread out along the major road systems connecting the regions of the Roman world. These relay points provided horses to dispatch riders, usually soldiers, and vehicles for magistrates or officers of the court. In this event we re-enact the cursus with  relay-race teams (anyone can sign up to race), to transmit an important message and returning its answer to the doors of Rome. Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place based on best time running the course.

Bona Dea and Mercuralia Festivals 2012

Saturday, 19th May:

10am - Bona Dea Ritual & Maypole Dance
Our festivals begin with a ritual for Bona Dea, "The Good Goddess" - Also known as Fauna, She is the daughter of Faunus, and a goddess of virginity, fertility, and healing. Bona Dea's rites included only women - even paintings or drawings of men or male animals were forbidden - but in our ROMA, the menfolk are welcome to Her rites. After the rite, we will have the traditional maypole dance, music, and wine!
Location: ROMA Transtiberim sim,

12pm - Fauna's Fishing Contest
Break out your poles and put on your fishing togas - it's time for another ROMA Fishing event, as we thank Fauna for the bounty she gives us. Using the 7Seas Fishing system, we will be having a fishing contest, with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners receiving cash prizes.

Because no women were traditionally allowed to participate in Bona Dea's rites, we have found a way to sneak the men in! We will be having a cross-dressing contest - but there's a catch! For the gents, just as in RL, you can change everything but your shape - that must remain male! For the ladies, you can wear your regular female attire, but must change your shape and skin to male. There will be cash prizes for the Prettiest, Ugliest, Most Realistic, and Most Outrageous costumes - don't be shy, come join in the fun! Please see attached rules for details.

Sunday, 20th May:

10am - Mercuralia Ritual and Guessing Game Contest
Mercury isn't just the herald of the Gods - He's also the patron of merchants and commerce! Our ritual will honour Him in that aspect, and request His blessing for all ROMA's merchants. After the ritual, we'll be having a special contest - as commerce depends upon coinage, we have set up a guessing game where you will have to "Name That Coin"! Can you guess which coins come from which era of Ancient Rome? The three participants with the most correct answers will win cash prizes!
Location:  ROMA Transtiberim sim,

11:30pm - Mercuralia Treasure Hunt
Oh no! After a recent shopping trip thru Trajan's Market, Mercury has dropped His parcels and most of His money while flying home to Olympus! The pouches are now scattered throughout ROMA Trantiberim!  Can you help Him find them? But watch out - each pouch will give out only one prize, and then it will disappear. So you will have to be swift to find these elusive pouches before anyone else does! (Our wonderful ROMA merchants have donated the items - come try for a chance to sample their wares! There will also be money pouches, so you have a chance to earn some lindens, even if you don't grab up the merch.)
Location:  ROMA Transtiberim sim,

1pm - Mercuralia Legio Obstacle Course Race
As Mercury is the God of swift travel, in His honour the Legio has designed a challenging war track/obstacle course racing thru Transtiberim. How fast can you clear the course and navigate it's obstacles? Come find out!
